Excessive Absences and Withdrawals for Non-Attendance
Instructors are expected to keep a record of their students' class attendance. Instructors may drop students from classes before the last date to withdraw if the Guidance and Counseling Office has officially warned students at least one week prior that their attendance has been irregular.
After an instructor has determined that a student's attendance has been irregular, he/ she completes an irregular attendance warning form and files it with the Records Office or Site Location. A sample appears in Appendix Q. These forms are available at the Information Desk or Site Location. The Records Office will mail the warning to the student, telling him/her that he/she may be withdrawn from a class at the instructor's discretion, or given a grade of "F" if irregular attendance continues.
To withdraw a student for non-attendance (Appendix N ), after an irregular attendance warning form has been sent one week prior, a withdrawal form must be turned in to the Records Office or Site Location by the date indicated on the college calendar. When students are withdrawn from a class because of irregular attendance, a designation of "W" (withdrawal) is recorded. To appeal the withdrawal for irregular attendance, a student must submit a written appeal to the instructor.
You may occasionally have questions regarding students such as, are they registered, why aren't they attending, do they need extra help, or have they been ill. In these cases, you may contact your Department Chairperson or Site Coordinator. They will be glad to call individual students to discuss their situations.
