Evaluation Methods
In order to evaluate students’ performance on the assessment instrument, instructors must select a method of evaluation that is fair and that can be replicated by others using the same method of evaluation. For objective tests, a key generally provides the evaluation methods with the number correct providing the student’s score. On alternative types of assessment, a rubric or checklist can help guide an instructor’s evaluation of student work. When an assessment is used for multiple sections, instructors need to practice using the evaluation instrument and discussing difference so that students will receive similar scores, no matter their instructor or section.
